Graeae Theatre
The Iron Man by Ted Hughes
Naomi's inclusive approach to theatre-making, makes her one of the 'go to' theatremakers for Graeae Theatre, working with their ensemble company, developing educational programmes and sharing Graeaae's approach to theatre-making with other arts professionals.
Her first opportunity to work alongside the company was when she developed an arts education series of workshops exploring the themes and characters of Ted Hughes' story The Iron Man. She created a multi-sensory programme using storytelling, movement and music to encourage the students at Tuke School to create their own theatrical presentation depicting the beginning of The Iron Man.
Understanding the dynamics and range of abilities Graeae work with, Naomi used the devices of role play, decision making and repetition to engage with all and supports them in accomplishing their aims of personal development and social interaction. She also encouraged the staff to participate fully and share their own skills and knowledge within her workshops.
Since then Graeae have recognised how inspiring and appropriate Naomi's style of work is, within their own theatre methos and include her in various projects aimed at other artists and young people, exploring different ways of creating powerful and thought provoking plays.
"Naomi is a progressive, passionate and highly skilled theatremaker and multi-disciplined inclusive practitioner. She approaches creative projects with great sincerity and an intuitive awareness of the ambitions and needs of artists, children and young people; projects are approached as a true collaboration. Naomi is brilliant at supporting a positive process and ensuring a lasting legacy."
