Inclusive theatre at the Almeida
Naomi has worked with many SEN schools, supporting students with a range of needs from Autism and sensory impairment to Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties. Her inclusive methods are welcomed by staff, who recognise her successful approach in engaging with students.
Naomi worked as an actor/practitioner in residence with The Bridge School, a community special school in Islington. She developed a series of plays with the students and staff, applying the theatrical elements of storytelling, repetition and choral work. Also, Naomi responded to the wide range of abilities within the group and spent time developing communicative skills with the students, encouraging the sharing of ideas and opinions to create the action within the work.
She has also been an associate artist with Stephen Hawking School creating a magical interactive promenade performance with pupils, has provided after school drama clubs with MeadowGate School culminating in a glitter festival and was the lead artist on a cross school project in Haringey welcoming beings from other planets.
She has created a series of workshops, using storytelling techniques to encourage SEN Key Stage 1 pupils and their parents at William C Harvey School in developing and understanding aspects of communication through creative play. This was an ongoing project supported by Haringey council as part of its parent-and-child programme.
"Naomi is a vivacious character that always brings excitement and energy into the rehearsal space along with a passion for her work. Her direction skills are superb and she has a wonderful ability to connect with any student that she is working with."
