John Keats Primary
Ms Naomi teaching poetry to Early Years pupils John Keats Primary
From its very first day, Naomi’s poetry programme at John Keats Primary has had a huge and positive effect on pupils in South Bermondsey. In September 2018, when John Keats opened its doors to its first ever intake of Reception pupils, Naomi was there, welcoming all with her smile, infectious energy and stagecraft knowledge.
Since then, the programme has gained popularity within the school among teachers, parents and all pupils, who enjoy both her online programme of activities and her in-class poetry sessions. Naomi encourages pupils to speak clearly, convey ideas and develop their vocabulary, whilst gaining confidence with reading and sharing out loud.
From poems about the changing seasons and our natural environment, to poets from the Caribbean, Naomi has introduced a colourful array of verse and ideas to engage pupils with new vocabulary, enabling them to communicate together and develop their confidence.
"Naomi's poetry programme has had a wonderful impact on my children for a number of years. Naomi's vibrant, engaging and energetic style brings out a different side to the children and has introduced them to a wealth of brilliantly diverse literature. Naomi's sessions can always be relied on to be lively, entertaining and most of all fun!"
